Open Roads Provides Fast-Track Deployment of Enterprise Transportation Management System at VDOT Staunton Smart Traffic Center
STAUNTON, VA -- Open Roads Consulting, Inc. is joined by team members URS Corporation, Kimley Horn and Associates, TrafficLand, Inc., and Meteorlogix, Inc. in announcing the Early Deployment of OpenTMS at the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Staunton Smart Traffic Center (STC) along the I-81 Corridor. The deployment was completed in less than two months and is now fully operational around the clock. The Open Roads team deployed the Transportation Management System, OpenTMS Enterprise, which included support for variable message signs, environmental sensor stations, device scheduling, incident detection and management, and work zone management.
Deploying OpenTMS, which is also deployed at the Richmond STC, demonstrates the power of utilizing customizable off-the-shelf solutions. Deployed along with OpenTMS Enterprise was the Open Road's Video Image Control and Display System (VICADS) product integrated with the VDOT's statewide video distribution system. This provided the Staunton STC operators with IP-based video surveillance capabilities and camera control within the I-81 Corridor.
The OpenTMS Enterprise system deployed in Staunton has since been enhanced with an integrated Virginia State Police (VSP) Computer Aided Dispatch solution. This enhancement provides real-time roadway data from the VSP. This information quickly alerts the operators to possible incidents on the roadways.
